Understanding Zabiha and Halal Meat

Certified halal vendors on the Halalich marketplace

For many Muslim households in Germany, trust in halal meat is non-negotiable. Here's how we think about Zabiha, certification, and what Halalich checks before a butcher joins the platform.

What is Zabiha?

Zabiha (ذبيحة) refers to meat slaughtered by a Muslim according to Islamic guidelines — including a swift cut to the throat, invoking the name of Allah, and ensuring the animal is treated humanely.

Halal certification

We only onboard vendors who provide valid halal certifications from recognised halal authorities. Certificates are reviewed before listing and kept on file for audit.

Our vendor checks

Halalich verifies three things for every meat partner:

  1. Halal certification — valid documentation from a recognised body
  2. Zabiha verification — confirmation of hand slaughter where applicable
  3. Hygiene validation — standards for storage, handling, and freshness
